This station’s first 6m DX during an opening

June 8, 2008

The Elecraft K3 gives me 6m in my main shack rig, which I did not have with the K2. Tonight, with 8W, a KU4AB loop antenna and a 6m opening I managed to get a 59 from Vince, N0VZJ, in Big Lake, MN. From FN25 to EN35 is around 860 miles. Nothing too dramatic for a regular 6m operator I suspect, but for this modest station I was very pleased.

Vince was making some contacts before he was to run the Northern Lights Radio Society’s 6m net. Details of their VHF nets can be found here.

Great stuff on 6m this weekend and late last week – worked into Nevada from here near Metcalfe using 50w into a Buddistick vertical on the patio. Using an FT-950 here set up in a corner of the kitchen – my basement is under renovation including the hamshack. Your K3 is doing a fine job.

Nice DX there Bob. I am keeping a closer eye on 6m now.

We should have a 2m simplex chat sometime. E-mail me for a sked . Good luck with the renovations.

This is great stuff, thanks for having the blog and putting details like this on it. Those of us with no writing skills really appreciate it. Believe me.
