First SMT project is a success

G3UUR crystal tester built with SMT components

I have just finished my first surface mount component project, a G3UUR crystal tester.  The circuit was planned out on a small piece of copper board and islands were cut with a Dremel-like tool.  The circuit is a two transistor oscillator which can have a series capacitor switched in and out, resulting in a shift in the oscillator frequency. This allows the motional parameters of the crystal to be calculated.  The circuit is from the book Experimental Methods in RF Design and was built in one evening, after an evening of planning the layout.  I was stunned to see it worked first time.  I am glad I did not have to debug that!
